FOR COMPANIES

Digital Career Fair

CALL FOR STEM PROFESSIONALS, COMPANIES, AND ORGANIZATIONS:

Calling all scientists, engineers, and computer, math, healthcare, manufacturing and skilled trades professionals! We are looking for STEM professionals in the Oklahoma City area who are passionate about kids and want to help open the door to a STEM career for students in elementary and middle school.

The STEAM Engine invites you to be part of our Digital Career Fair, an online experience highlighting educational paths and careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) for K-12th grade students. Your participation in our fair will provide many of the students with their first glimpse at the career choices available to them.

ABOUT THE PIVOT TO A DIGITAL CAREER FAIR:
We had planned to host a traditional Career Fair for elementary and middle schoolers on Saturday, May 2nd at Francis Tuttle Technology Center. After much discussion, we have made the decision to cancel the in-person event and pivot to offering an online alternative. This was not an easy decision to make, but we believe it to be in the best interest of both our youth and their parents, and the community at large.

HOW IS THE STEAM ENGINE GOING TO HOST A "DIGITAL" CAREER FAIR?
We are looking for at least 25 STEM professionals to submit a 3-5 minute “career-fair” style video to inspire kids to pursue STEM careers. Companies, colleges and individual STEM professionals are all welcome to participate. These videos will be featured on the STEAM Engine's "Digital Career Fair" website, along with supplemental content like worksheets, STEAM Challenges, and other career-related activities.

INTERESTED IN HAVING YOUR COMPANY'S CAREERS BEING FEATURED IN OUR DIGITAL CAREER FAIR?
There is no cost to submit a video, however, we are asking you to consider making a donation at the level of a "Contributing Sponsor," as described below, in order to help support the work of the STEAM Engine. Contributing Sponsors will get to have their company name/logo displayed on Digital Career Fair Sponsors' webpage as well as the webpage featuring their career video. There are additional sponsorship opportunities available.

Digital Career Fair Sponsorship Opportunities

We can't do what we do without the support of our generous sponsors! If you're interested in helping us sustain the important work of connecting youth to opportunities in STEM careers, please consider one of the following sponsorship packages. Your investment will ensure that there are resources available to: support the digital platform; develop digital career fair content; find innovative ways to connect youth to STEM careers in a virtual environment; and continue to develop curriculum and resources for in-person programs when it is safe to do so.

When you are ready, give us a call at 405-652-9697 and we'll get the details finalized.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do we have to create a new video?
No. If you, or your company, already has a promotional video that is geared towards educating students on careers in your field or industry we'd be happy to include it in our collection. For us to be able to use it, the video must be hosted on YouTube. We would like for your video to include linked time-stamps (if possible).
How do we create a video? I need help creating a video...
Videos don't have to be elaborate, a simple interview shot with a webcam or cell phone will suffice. We are trying to secure a few volunteers with video editing capability to assist companies with post-production, if needed.
HOW DO WE SHARE the video with the STEAM Engine? WHo Owns the Rights?
There are two ways to share your video with us.
  1. Preferred Method: You can send us a copy of the video file through Google Drive or Dropbox. We will upload it to the STEAM Engine's YouTube Channel. By submitting the file directly to the STEAM Engine, you agree to the following conditions: a) The Video you submit does not include third-party intellectual property (such as copyrighted material) unless you have permission from that party or are otherwise legally entitled to do so. b) You retain ownership rights in your video. However, by providing the video file to the STEAM Engine, you grant to the STEAM Engine a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable and transferable license to use that video (including to reproduce, distribute, prepare derivative works, display and perform it) in connection with the STEAM Engine's business.
  2. Alternate Method: You can upload your video to YouTube and share a link to the video with us. We will simply embed the video on our site. Per YouTube's Terms of Service (as of 4/9/2020): "License to Other Users -- You also grant each other user of the Service a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to access your Content through the Service, and to use that Content, including to reproduce, distribute, prepare derivative works, display, and perform it, only as enabled by a feature of the Service (such as video playback or embeds). For clarity, this license does not grant any rights or permissions for a user to make use of your Content independent of the Service."
What should the video include?
  • The Video should be 3-5 minutes in length.
  • It should include an "Intro" slide that includes the job title of the career featured in the video
  • It is helpful if you include transition slides between questions/topics. Include the text of the next questions/topic on the transition slide.
  • Your video does not have to include background music, but if you include music, make sure that you have the rights to include it in your work.
  • Make sure to use language that is developmentally appropriate and easy to understand for 8-13 year-olds. Avoid jargon or acronyms.
  • Include visuals or examples of your work. Get creative making your job "come alive" for youth who may never have encountered someone in that role before.
I'm stuck. What Should I talk about in my video?
